2019 International Day of Disability

December 2, 2019

Today is international day of disability. To celebrate we wanted to share the word about an exciting art therapy that Nambour & District Care are offering for a client group known as The Young Ones.

Nambour & District Care have started an art class that meets on the third Monday of each month. These classes are taught by art teacher, Michele O’Farrell with the support of volunteers.

Art therapy allows individuals who have experienced trauma, illness or other life challenges to enhance their cognitive abilities, cope with stress and other symptoms as a result of traumatic experiences whilst creating art. Other benefits of art therapy include;

  • confidence boost

  • increased critical thinking; and

  • increased focus.

Feedback from clients has been overwhleming positive. Clients love experimenting with the different art techniques that are demonstrated by Michele. We look forward to continuing this project in the new year.
